Dr. Flato is a Research Scientist and Acting Chief of the Canadian Center for Climate Modelling and Analysis and is an Adjunct Professor, School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of Victoria. His expertise is in the area of sea-ice and global climate modelling and he has developed sea-ice models for use in a range of applications from operational forecasting to long-term climate change. He has been involved in the development of a sequence of coupled global climate models used to simulate historical climate variations and to project future climate change. Dr. Flato serves on a number of national and international scientific organizations such as the WCRP’s Climate and Cryosphere Project, the Working Group on Climate Modelling, and the WCRP Observation and Assimilation Panel. He is a lead author of the upcoming IPCC Assessment.
