Michael Foreman is Head of the Integration and Prediction Section at the Institute of Ocean Sciences and an adjunct professor at The University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. He has been a leader in the development, testing, and publication of numerous circulation models for the Northeast Pacific Ocean and British Columbia shelf waters. He has developed an operational prediction system for flows and temperatures in the Fraser River, has published papers on data assimilation, has led a project on assimilating TOPEX/Poseidon altimetry into a circulation model for the North Pacific, and is presently developing a prediction system for harmful algal blooms off the southern British Columbia and northern Washington coasts. He is Chairman of the Physical Oceanography and Climate Committee of PICES, the North Pacific Marine Science Organization. He is also an authority in the analysis and prediction of tides, having developed a software package that has been acquired by over 200 researchers and consulting companies worldwide.
